
Our Story
Amma Nissa was born from love, memory and the timeless magic of a grandmother’s kitchen.

Growing up, food was never just food. It was comfort after a long day, celebration during special moments, and the language through which love was expressed. Our grandmothers — our Ammas — cooked with intuition, patience, and an unspoken understanding that every meal carried emotion. Their recipes were never written down, only passed through generations by watching, tasting and feeling.
Amma Nissa began as a tribute to those women and the meals that shaped us.
What started as a humble idea soon grew into a space where traditional Sri Lankan flavours could be honoured while being thoughtfully presented to a modern table. Every dish we serve is rooted in authenticity — slow-cooked curries, fragrant spices, and techniques that respect the way Sri Lankan food has been prepared for generations.
Our journey has been one of passion, resilience and deep gratitude. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of feeding families, travellers and friends from around the world, each plate carrying a piece of our story. With the opening of our second restaurant in the heart of Galle Fort, Amma Nissa continues to grow while staying true to its soul.
